Finding new sources of readers for authors stories is all part of the author holy grail.
I’ve been wanting to take a look at podcasting which seems to be growing in popularity everywhere. The good news is that it appears to be relatively straightforward. My first podcast short story is Three Christmas lovers which is on my new podcast short stories site.
I found the best way to podcast is to do it from a blog because podcasts are technically closely tied in to RSS feeds which are provided automatically in web logs. I use Wordpress weblog which has several special plugins to handle podcasts and makes it about as easy as it could be to podcast from a web-log.
Producing the podcast sound file (mp3) is just a matter of getting audio recorder software into your computer. Audacity is a free, cross platform sound editor and is available as a free download which will do the recording and the site also provides links to the Lame mp3 encoder that you will also need to convert the sound to mp3 format.
One word of caution, if you are an author wanting to get into podcasting. Make sure you have lots of bandwidth available from your web host. The Three Christmas Lovers short story podcast file is three megabytes in size against the text version of Three Christmas Lovers which is very much smaller.
Happy podcasting
Bye for now
